The jobs that need a saw, a level, and some patience.
Doors that stick, drag, or won't latch
A door that catches on the jamb usually isn't the door's fault — the house has settled, the hinges have sagged, or humidity has swelled the slab. We diagnose which it actually is, then shim the hinges, plane the edge, or reset the strike plate so it closes with one hand instead of a shoulder. We also hang new interior doors, swap out storm and exterior doors, replace worn thresholds and weatherstripping, and get bifold and closet doors running on their track again. Homeowners across Milford, Mason, Blue Ash, and West Chester call us for this more than almost anything else.
Trim, baseboard, and finish work
Trim is where sloppy work shows. Baseboard, door and window casing, quarter-round, crown, and chair rail all get mitered tight, nailed off clean, and filled so the seams disappear under paint. We replace water-damaged baseboard behind a fixed leak, close up the gap where new flooring met old trim, and rebuild the pieces that went missing during someone else's project. If the walls are wavy — and in older Cincinnati houses they usually are — we scribe the trim to the wall instead of pretending it's straight.
Shelving, built-ins, and closet storage
Wire shelving that sags under a winter coat is a solved problem. We build real shelving into closets, garages, basements, and pantries — anchored into studs, level, and sized to what you actually store there. Floating shelves, bookcases fitted to an alcove, garage overhead storage, workbenches, and mudroom hooks and benches all fall in the same bucket. Families in Loveland, Hyde Park, Anderson Township, and Montgomery mostly get to this in winter, when the garage finally gets dealt with.
Interior framing and blocking
Plenty of jobs need wood in the wall before anything else can happen. We frame closet and partition walls in basements and bonus rooms, fur out a wall to run new boxes, build soffits to hide ductwork, and add solid blocking behind drywall so a TV mount, grab bar, or upper cabinet has something real to bite into. Straightforward, non-structural interior framing is well inside what we do.
Where we stop — and say so
Load-bearing walls, roof and floor structure, and anything needing a permit or a licensed trade are not our work, and we'll tell you that on the phone rather than after we've opened the wall. It's a short conversation and it saves everybody money. Same goes for rot that turns out to run deeper than the surface — you'll get the honest version, with photos.
How it works
Text a photo of the door, the wall, or the closet and tell us what you want it to do. We send back a firm flat price — not a range, and always before anyone shows up. We bring the tools and the lumber, cut on site, clean up the sawdust, and haul off the scrap. No hourly clock running, no surprise add-ons. More about Simple Fix Cincy.
