Start with the doors

Exterior doors are the biggest and easiest win in most houses. Weatherstripping goes hard and stops sealing after a decade or so, door sweeps wear through where they drag, and thresholds settle until you can see daylight at a corner. All of it is replaceable in well under an hour per door with parts that cost very little. If your storm door never latched properly or the back door has to be pulled hard to close, that's the same fix — the door isn't sitting in the frame the way it should, and adjusting the hinges and strike is part of the job.

Windows, and the older houses around here

Cincinnati has a lot of pre-war housing with original double-hung windows, and those were never airtight to begin with. You don't have to replace them to stop the draft. Sealing the frame where it meets the wall, adding sash locks that actually pull the two sashes together, repairing or adding weatherstripping in the channels, and getting storm windows sitting properly makes a real difference for a fraction of what replacement costs. We'll tell you honestly when a window is past helping — but that's rarer than the replacement-window salespeople suggest.

The gaps nobody thinks about

Once the obvious openings are handled, the remaining cold air is coming from places you can't see. Outlets and switches on exterior walls are essentially holes in your insulation, and foam gaskets behind the covers take minutes to install. Attic hatches and pull-down stairs are often bare plywood with no seal, sitting right where warm air escapes. Rim joists in the basement, dryer vents, and the holes where cable and pipes enter the house all leak. None of these are dramatic on their own; together they're usually the reason one room never warms up.

Honest about what this does

Sealing gaps makes a house more comfortable and takes load off the furnace. What it isn't is insulation, an energy audit, or a fix for a heating system that's failing — and we won't pretend otherwise. If the real problem is an undersized furnace, ductwork that was never balanced, or an attic with almost nothing in it, you'll get told that plainly and pointed toward the right trade. What we do is the sealing work, at a flat price, before the weather turns.
