Video doorbells, and the wiring behind them

A video doorbell looks like a fifteen-minute job until you find out what's behind your existing button. Older Cincinnati homes often have a transformer that can't supply enough power for a wired doorbell, a chime that needs a bypass, or brick and stone around the door that makes mounting a real drilling job rather than two screws. We work all of that out, mount the unit at an angle that actually shows a face rather than the top of someone's head, and get it connected. Battery models on brick or stone are just as routine.

Smart thermostats and old wiring

The most common thermostat surprise in this region is a missing common wire. Plenty of houses here were wired for a simple thermostat decades ago and never had the extra conductor a smart unit wants for steady power. There are legitimate ways to handle that, and there are shortcuts that leave you with a thermostat that reboots itself all winter. We check what your system actually has before installing, get the unit mounted level, and confirm heating and cooling both cycle correctly before we leave — not just that the screen lights up.

Smart locks that fit the door you have

A keypad or smart deadbolt has to match the door's backset and bore, and old doors have often been drilled by somebody in a hurry sometime in the last fifty years. If the strike doesn't align or the door has settled in the frame, the lock will jam or fail to auto-lock, which defeats the point. We fit the hardware to the actual door, adjust the strike plate and hinges where needed so it throws smoothly, and set up the codes with you.

Set up, tested, and explained

Installation is only half of it. We connect the device to your wifi, get it into the app on your phone, test it end to end, and walk you through the handful of settings that matter — notification zones on a doorbell, a schedule on a thermostat, guest codes on a lock. You should not be handed a mounted device and a QR code. If we can't get something working, you'll hear that plainly rather than discovering it that evening.
