A running toilet is a water bill, not a nuisance

A toilet that refills every few minutes can waste a startling amount of water over a month, and most people live with it far longer than they should because it doesn't feel like an emergency. It's almost always one of two parts — a flapper that no longer seals, or a fill valve that won't shut off cleanly. Both are inexpensive, both are quick, and both are exactly the sort of job that's worth a flat price rather than a Saturday spent staring into a tank.

Weak flush is a diagnosis, not a plunger

When a toilet won't clear on one flush, the reflex is to blame the drain. Sometimes that's right. Often it isn't — the water level in the tank is set too low, the flapper is closing early and cutting the flush short, or the small rinse holes under the rim have scaled over after years of hard water and the bowl is no longer getting the swirl it needs. We check the actual cause before recommending anything, and if what you really need is a drain cleared beyond the trap, we'll say so rather than sell you a part.

Rocking, loose, or leaking at the base

A toilet that shifts when you sit down is on borrowed time. The rocking breaks the seal underneath, and water starts working into the subfloor where you can't see it until the damage is done. The fix is to pull the toilet, replace the wax ring, check the flange, shim the base level, and re-set it properly. Done right, it's solid for years. Done with a bead of caulk over the top and no seal underneath, it's a floor repair waiting to happen — and in older Cincinnati homes with original bathrooms, that's a mistake we find often.

When replacing beats repairing

Sometimes the honest answer is that the fixture is finished — a cracked tank, a bowl that's been rebuilt twice, or an old low-performance model that has never cleared properly. We'll install a new toilet you've bought or pick one up, set it level with a fresh wax ring and new supply line, and take the old one with us. What we won't do is talk you into replacing something that needs a two-dollar flapper. If it's fixable, we fix it.
