Already on the way

Newtown falls almost exactly between Milford and Anderson Township, two places we are in constantly. That means we are frequently passing through anyway, and a small job here is easy to fit into a day that already has work on both sides of it. Short drives are the reason small repairs stay affordable — nobody is paying for a half hour of windshield time in each direction.

A village with two kinds of house

The older housing around Church Street and Main runs to early and mid-1900s frame homes: plaster in places, doors long out of square, original trim, and electrical fittings that have been replaced piecemeal over the decades. Mixed in are newer builds and infill from the last thirty years, which are straightforward drywall construction where the builder-grade faucets, fixtures and hardware are now simply worn out. We work on both in the same week.

Garages, sheds and the projects out back

Newtown has more detached garages, workshops and sheds per house than most of the east side, and they generate their own list — a service door that drags, shelving and workbenches built to fit, better lighting, outlets replaced, and a side door that never sealed properly. Outbuildings get the same flat-rate treatment as the house, quoted from a photo before we start.
